Treasure hunts with clues are great fun. Reduce the preparation time with our free printable clues.

Perhaps one of the better known types of treasure hunt is one which involves deciphering clues. This type of hunt is fun and satisfying to do, and is always met with excitement and appreciation. Writing clues is time-consuming so the treasure hunts on this site have pre-written clues you can print out and use.

Most of the treasure hunts on the site at the moment are designed to be run indoors. The clues have been written in such a way that they should work in most homes. If your house does not have a place that corresponds with somewhere mentioned in the clues, you might have to adapt it.

The difficult part of preparing treasure hunts with clues is trying to match the level of complexity of the clues to the ability of the treasure hunters. For now I’ve divided these hunts into three levels:

  • Picture hunt – for young children who are not yet confident readers.
  • Easy written clues – for those who can read well enough to understand basic instructions but may not be able to decipher more complex clues.
  • Tricky written clues – harder clues that require a bit of thought to unravel the location of the next clue.

Each hunt has printable clues. If you don’t have a printer you can just copy them out. Each hunt also has instructions and tips for where to hide the clues. Use the menu to access the different levels of hunt. It’s worth taking the time to find the right level of hunt for your needs.

Happy Treasure Hunting!
