This is a simple active dice game that everyone can play. You need at least two players and a dice. Younger players may need help reading the cards but this game can be fun for mixed ages. This game can be played many times.

Stuff Needed:

  • A set of Action Cards (click here to download them), printed and cut out. The cards are colour-coded. If you don’t have access to a colour printer, you can print a plain version here (either print each page on a different colour of paper or print on white paper and then colour them in or number the backs of the cards).
  • A dice.
  • The purple cards call for an object – unless stated, you may use any object but for balancing actions I would suggest something soft, such as a small teddy bear. One card requires a spoon for balancing things on. If you don’t want to play using objects, take out the purple cards.

Instructions:

  1. Print the cards and cut them out. You can play this game multiple times so you could stick the sheets onto thin card before cutting out the pieces, or laminate them to preserve them for many uses.
  2. Split the cards into six piles by colour and shuffle them. To avoid people seeing the top card in a stack, add the reference card (the card with a number on) to the top of each pile.
  3. Take it in turns to roll the dice, take a card from the pile which matches the number on the dice, and do the action on the card. There’s a quick reference sheet at the bottom of the last page.

Playing with toddlers and young children:

If players can’t read by themselves, let them choose a card then read it to them. Everyone can have fun doing each action at the same time. Toddlers often enjoy copying actions so they will probably prefer playing this way.

To make it harder

After a few games, players may choose to make up some cards of their own to add to the packs. You can download a blank set of coloured cards here.

Note: Due to the way PDF files are designed, the lines on the card printable may not show up on your screen, however they should show up when printed. If there are any problems with printables on this site, please let me know via the contact form.
